WITH AUTHORITIES
RESIDENCE CERTIFICATE/PERMIT
Depending on nationality, students need to apply
for a residence certificate (for EU students) or
permit (non-EU students) for the duration of their
stay in Aarhus.
Nordic citizens staying in Denmark do not need a
residence permit.
EU/EEA citizens need a residence certificate
only if they are staying in Denmark for more than
three months. It is recommended that EU/EEA
citizens apply for residence certificate, during the
mandatory AU Intro Days.
NON-EU/EEA citizens who are planning to stay
in Denmark for more than three months will need
to obtain a residence permit. The permit must be
applied for and received prior to their arrival in
Denmark.
CPR NUMBER
All students, regardless of their nationality, must
apply for a Danish Social Security Number (CPR
number).
This number is used when dealing with public
authorities, health authorities, libraries, banks, etc.
All students can apply for a CPR number, during
the mandatory AU Intro Days.
INSURANCE AND HEALTH CARE
If students plan to stay in Denmark for less than
three months, they should purchase private health
insurance to cover any medical treatment that
they might require during their stay.
The Danish Health Security Act covers foreign
students staying for more than three months. It
means that once students have their yellow Health
Insurance Card, showing their name, address and
personal registration number (CPR number), they
will be allowed to receive free medical treatment
in clinics and hospitals.
Please note that the Danish Health Insurance does
not cover the costs of medical evacuation back
to the home country, emergency repatriation and
personal liability. For this reason, we encourage
everyone to purchase travel insurance as well.

14 There was no time to feel bored or homesick with all the organised events, such as Aarhus Model United Nations, or Student House international nights. I opted to dwell in a shared facility house, proposed by the AU Housing Office, with many other exchange students. It was a fantastic experience.
15 320,000 people live in Aarhus and 1.2 million people live in the greater Aarhus area. 33 per cent of all Aarhusians are university- educated, making Aarhus Denmarks best-educated city.
16 I really appreciate the opportunity to be a part of students life at Aarhus University. All teachers are high-level specialists with strong practicing skills. The students seem to be very enthusiastic and hard-working. In addition, the technical equipment at the university is the most modern and
