newsAlstom brief for Bell Pottinger Public Affairs Alstom has brought in Bell Pottinger Public Affairs to provide UK lobbying advice. The agency appointment, believed to be the first time the company has handed out a major retained UK PA contract, follows the appointment of a new UK comms director at the end of last year. Deborah Risby joined from Siemens, where she worked for five years, and promptly reviewed the company’s agency support. Bell Pottinger has also been hired to handle corporate PR, while Burson-Marsteller’s PA team continues to work on a project basis for Alstom’s UK president, Stephen Burgin. Alstom’s relationship with Chatsworth Communications for regional/ local and trade media is unchanged. Risby replaced Gary Follows, who left last summer for IT company Steria (PAN, Aug 08), and reports to Burgin. Alstom, headquartered in Paris and Zurich, has business interests in the transport and power sectors. With 5,000 employees across 30 UK sites, it builds and services power stations, makes and maintains high-speed trains such as the Pendolino for Virgin Trains, as well as Northern Line trains for London Underground.
