Even in times of Covid-19, this year more season tickets to home matches at Lyngby Stadium were sold than any previous year. (Photo: Fodboldbilleder.dk) Lyngby Football Club is a strong player in the local community Lyngby Football Club, founded in 1921, will soon celebrate its 100th birthday. The professional division of the club is run by public limited company Lyngby Boldklub A/S. Efficient local partnerships have turned the club into a crucial factor in the local communitys self-perception. By Henrik Malmgreen Football is more than just a game of two halves spent passing a ball around on a grassy field. It is just as much about networking and building a sense of belonging. A football club is an active part of the outside world and must be able to attract local figures who may even be quite indifferent to what is happening on the pitch. The days are gone when football matches on Sundays were the natural domain of fathers. Today, it is an event for the entire family. Or at least it should be, according to Andreas Byder, CEO of Lyngby Football Club. We depend on support from the local community. But support does not come 16 KG S . LY N G B Y FUTURE by itself. You have to earn it. At least if you want to reach out beyond the most hardcore fans, says Byder. Hence, the club must be able to offer more than just football. The club is part of the social glue that helps keep the community together, for instance by offering activities for the whole family when they go to the stadium. A part of the communitys DNA As a club we need to create a place for everyone in the municipality to share a place where everyone can meet casually and a place of social cohesion. Therefore, we go out of our way to set up activities for the kids and help their parents meet each other, without it affecting the football experience, Anders Byder says. He adds, however, that even more is needed. The connection to the local community must go deeper. It has to be rooted in the business community as well. Professional football is a business, and so solid collaboration with both sponsors and other partners is crucial. Lyngby Football Club must be present in the minds of local residents as more than just a name and thus be an indispensable part of the local communitys DNA. Why is that? It is an unavoidable fact that every year some teams ascend to a higher league, while others are descend to lower leagues. Therefore, local support cannot depend on whether the club happens to play in the highest league or in one of the lower leagues. Networking is important to the club That is why we have been very active in creating networks beyond the social interaction that occurs by itself during home matches at Lyngby Stadium. Among other things, we have a CEO network targeting the largest companies in the area. They typically join as part of a sponsorship package. Apart from that, we have our two morning network events, where essentially all companies can sign up, including those who do not care about the football being played, says Andreas Byder. He makes no secret of the fact that
