19 Music, by the sea listingshippopress.com nite Science Center hosts concert series in Rye By Ellen Stuart Music will be floating out over the Atlan- tic this month at the Seacoast Science Center. The 15th annual Music by the Sea series kicks off July 8 with reggae group Islandside. Kar- en Provazza, marketing director at the Seacoast Science Center, said that the concert series has become a beloved tradition with visitors and residents of the Seacoast. Its really something people look forward to each year to come and sit on the rocky shore and listen to some great music, Provazza said. The concert series will continue with rock- ers Johnny Wad and the Cash on July 15, New England favorite Entrain on July 22 and the Jumbo Circus Peanuts (pictured in courtesy photo) on July 29. Provazza said that Jumbo Circus Peanuts are a longtime favorite at the Seacoast Science Center, and that the Mardi Gras style band is too fun to miss: They dress in costume, throw beads, Provazza said. The concerts start at 6 p.m. and the gates open at 5 p.m. for food service. The concerts go on rain or shine. This year, food vendors at the concerts will be Flatbread Pizza, the Sausage Guy and, at selected events, Peteys Seafood. There will be snacks and novelty ice cream treats for sale, as well as an adult beverage gar- den, according to Provazza. The Music by the Sea concert series is the Seacoast Science Centers largest fundraiser of the year, and this year the fundraising efforts will be supplemented with a raffle for a tandem sea kayak. Raffle tickets can be purchased at all the concerts, and 100 percent of the proceeds go to the Seacoast Science Center. The concerts depend on a network of dedicated volunteers. Our volunteers help with all aspects of the concerts, from setup and breakdown to tick- et sales to face painting, Provazza said. Its really only possible with the help of dozens and dozens of volunteers. The cost of admission to the concerts is $8 for adults (13 and up), $2 for children ages 3-12, and free for children 2 and younger. The price of a ticket includes parking and admission to the sur- rounding Odiorne State Park. Seacoast Science Center members get in for half price. No dogs are allowed, and alcohol may not be brought into the concerts, although beer and wine will be for sale. Provazza said that a concert (or four) at the Seacoast Science Center is a perfect way to celebrate summer in the Seacoast and the backdrop is unbeatable. Where else can you find such a beauti- ful setting? Provazza said. Its sunset by the ocean, theres plenty of room for dancing. And it all supports our mission of connecting people to nature through personal experience. Call the Seacoast Science Center at 603-436- 8043. If you want to volunteer to help with any of the concerts, call Center volunteer coordina- tor Laura Bahl at 603-436-8043 ext. 21.
