4 TURISTAVISEN On paths of new adventures Mols Bjerge National Park has just opened two new exciting hiking trails in the hillsides and coastal landscape The two new trails, stretching five to six kilometres, offer plenty of opportunity for a true adventure in Mols Bjerge National Park. You have the chance to be one of the first to ever set foot on the new hiking trails - Øerstien (the Øer trail) and Langemosestien (the bog trail). The trails offer interesting experiences that are off the beaten track. Øerstien is just outside Ebeltoft, while Langemosestien takes you across the Danish mountains, Mols Bjerge. Across islands and bridges Wooden bridges that cross channels. Tiny islands, thickets and hikes across the raised seabed. Juniper labyrinth. Heather. A vista of the bright blue Kattegat. You are never bored on Øerstien (the Øer trail), which is one of the two new trails. You can walk along the five kilometre long trail, locally known as the jungle path, which begins at the car park in front of the reception area of the holiday centre Landal Ebeltoft. Øerstien crosses the vast, former raw material mining area where Århus Stenog Gruskompagni (rock and gravel company) mined sand, gravel, pebbles and rocks between 1935 and 1974. 2,3 million cubic metres were hauled off from the 285 acres area. The trail cuts across a wide variety of natural resorts ranging from marshlands to birch forests and the beach - and takes you back across the beautiful moorlands. At the end of the trail, lose yourself the juniper labyrinth - or climb the tower at Landal Ebeltoft to get a 360-degree perspective of the glorious surroundings. There is a ground mist The protected peat bog Langemosen lends its name to the other, six kilometres long trial. At Langemosestien in Mols Bjerge, one moment you are in a dense forest worthy of a scene in Lord of the Rings. The very next moment, the landscape opens up to let the eye slide across rolling hills and thickets right down to a splash of blue far below, which is Ebeltoft Cove. Langemosestien offers amazing variation. You cross through old, untouched oak woods and biologically diverse pastures with splendid vistas of Ebeltoft Cove and takes you along the protected peat bog - where you may even see a ground mist. Along the trail, you can enjoy the sight of the livestock that help maintain the hillside nature. Please respect the animals and keep a safe distance.
