"We are a very international municipality in a symbiosis where we should help each other. In the knowledge city, we should be ambassadors for each other for the benefit of the local community. Innovation is a driving force in this," says Jakob Fritz Hansen, Director of Research, Consultancy, and Innovation at DTU, who has now been elected to the board of Science City Lyngby. (Photo: Henrik Malmgreen) The local collaboration is the foundation of the knowledge city Science City Lyngby has once again gained a representative from DTU on its board. The new board member, Jakob Fritz Hansen, sees himself as a man of the community, working for the benefit of the entire local community. By Henrik Malmgreen After a period without representation in Science City Lyngby, there is now once again a representative from DTU (Technical University of Denmark) on the board. In the spring, Director of Research, Consultancy, and Innovation, Jakob Fritz Hansen, was elected, and he looks forward to bringing his skills and expertise to the board. Even though he is employed at DTU and has more than 20 years of experience in various roles, turns contributing their efforts. An important aspect of a knowledge city like Science City Lyngby is that we work as ambassadors for each other. It should not be just because of the university that we have a knowledge city. It should be for the sake of the entire ecosystem," says Jakob Fritz Hansen. Local perspective is important At DTU, he leads a support function that fosters relationships with the outside world, creating new col- In Science City Lyngby, we have a common task when it comes to working for the local environment, but we also have a task to benefit society as a whole. In this context, the knowledge city is an important communication channel Jakob Fritz Hansen. he sees himself as equally a man of the community. "As I see it, there's nothing strange about DTU not being represented on the board for a period. I see it as a natural rotation, where the municipality's stakeholders can take 4 KG S . LY N G BY laboration opportunities locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, the function support researchers in their various application processes and assist them in forming research agreements, including the legal aspects, documentation, and commercialization. In essence, it is support for the research journey in various ways. "We have 130 employees working on relationships with the outside world, creating networks with stakeholders, partners, and organizations. We generally try to support what we believe is beneficial for society. DTU should not be a closed framework; it is extremely important to be open. Even though we are very internationally oriented as a university, we should also be a local player," Jakob Fritz Hansen explains further. Emphasizing closeness and interaction In his view, close collaboration is important on all fronts, including with the local political environment. He is pleased that the municipality's mayor and a number of municipal politicians are on the board of Science City Lyngby, aiming to achieve the important Triple Helix effect, which involves the interaction between educational institutions, businesses, and political decision-makers. Sustainability, in particular, is a current focus, and cooperation is essential. "In Science City Lyngby, we have a common task when it comes to working for the local environment, but we also have a task to benefit society as a whole. In this context, the knowledge city is an important communication channel, and I am very pleased that it now has a platform through the new Sustainability Lab, making it truly visible. This helps concretize the efforts we can all make, whether it's local politicians, businesses, or educational institutions," Jakob Fritz Hansen elaborates. A good reason to be proud Science City Lyngby and the Sustainability Lab contribute to telling the positive story of the city and the municipality, and according to Jakob Fritz Hansen, being a resident in Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality is something to be proud of. There is a strong interest in discovering what is happening within the walls of the municipality's companies and educational institutions, not just DTU, as evidenced by the successful events as "Viden & Vin" (Knowledge & Wine). "I look forward to continuing my work on the board in Science City Lyngby, and the advantage is that it has a size and membership where tasks can rotate in a natural interplay. At the same time, I would like to emphasize that all stakeholders, large or small, are important. Collaboration is crucial, and in a municipality where innovation is a common driving force, we must make the best use of it," concludes Jakob Fritz Hansen.
